$NZ firmer
PA Wellington The SNZ firmed slightly against the SUS yesterday closing at 0.4517/22 after opening at 0.4512/22. The Reserve Bank indicative exchange rate remained at 61.0 during the day, compared with 62.7 before the float, with the SNZ worth U545.15C, Aust66.4c, 35.5 p, 113.36 yen, and 1.38 marks. The SUS eased slightly 3.0710/30 marks in late afternoon trading compared with its 3.0720/50 opening here, but firmer on its 3.0670/00 New York close. Dealers said trading was exceptionally quiet, with holidays due in London,
New York, and West Germany on Monday. Although there was a lack of interest in the SUS, it was wellsupported at lower levels, they said. In Sydney the sAust finished steady at U50.6815/25, unchanged from Thursday’s close but up from its opening of 0.6775/85. Dealers said the currency met resistance throughout the day at 0.6780/0.6800 on range trading as it failed to attract significant volume. Dealers attributed the low volume to uncertainty over the direction of the SUS and present concerns surrounding domestic economic policy.
