Exporters want help to remain
PA Auckland Exporters will fight to change the Government’s mind on phasing out the remaining export incentive after 1987. Mr John Lister, the president of the Export Institute, said his own company, Wattle Exports, had lost orders in markets such as Hong Kong since the perform-ance-based tax incentives were halved on April 1. The loss of the remaining marketing incentive, which was worth $5O million to exporters last year, would make it even harder to keep overseas markets.
Mr Lister said he hoped the Market Development Board could convince the Government to change its mind.
He said the National Party’s spokesman on overseas trade, Mr John Falloon, was “100 per cent” behind the marketing incentive.
“We will work with the Government of the day, whichever it may be, to get this extended.”
However, he was glad that at least he could now plan on the incentive continuing for another two years.
