Boon scores 41 points
The Leeston full-back, Stuart Boon, almost certainly set a Canterbury club rugby record when he scored 41 points against Irwell last Saturday.
Leeston won 65-0, outclassing the Irwell side, which gained promotion this year to the Ellesmere senior grade.
Boon scored five of Leeston's 11 tries, converted nine of them and kicked one
penalty goal. The two missed conversions were his only kicking failures.
The record for most points in a game in the Town competition is 30, set by Brent Hutchinson (Belfast) last year. Figures for the sub-unions have not been kept, but it is doubtful if 41 has been exceeded in any of the three.
Boon’s nine conversions beat by one the Town re-
cord, held by Gary Cookson, and his five tries fell one short of the best return, which is shared by four players, one being the present New Brighton coach, Mr Terry Mitchell. The points scored by Boon match the All Black record. This was set by Joe Karam when he scored 41 points, 33 off the boot, against South Australia in 1974.
