Complaint about adverts
PA Wellington The mover of the Homosexual Law Reform Bill, Ms Fran Wilde, the member of Parliament for Wellington Central, has complained to newspaper publishers about a series of advertisements opposing the bill. The advertisements, placed by the Aucklandbased Church of Christ, were run in several daily newspapers on Wednesday and yesterday.
Ms Wilde said yesterday that the advertisements represented “insidious and dishonest advertising” and that she would seek legal advice. “They are totally incorrect factually, with claims about the effects of the proposed legislation which are simply not true,” she said in a statement. “I am amazed that the newspaper publishers have accepted them without
checking the accuracy of the text.” Ms Wilde said she had sent a formal complaint to the Newspaper Publishers’ Association.
“It is time for every New Zealander who is concerned about any sort of human rights or liberal principles to now stand up and speak out against this campaign of fear and intolerance which is sweeping through our community,” she said.
