S.A. tour opposed
PA Hastings The Maori Women’s Welfare League has reaffirmed
its opposition to the All Black tour of South Africa.
At its conference in Hastings, the league reactivated its remit against the tour which was first introduced in 1976 and reaffirmed again in 1981. The league also reaffirmed its support of the Government’s policy of ex-
eluding nuclear-armed ships of all nations from New Zealand waters.
Also reactivated was the remit that the Maori lan-
guage be declared “one of the two official languages of Aotearoa” — in equal status with English. The 350 delegates also voted in favour of declaring Aotearoa the official name for New Zealand.
