Youth art show
More than 100 works have been received for the Youth Art Exhibition which will open at the C.S.A. Gallery on Monday evening. Many of the 37 entries are from schools, increasing the total number of paintings, firints, and sculpture almost o 150.
Sponsored by “The Press,” the youth art will be exhibited until June 16. The works will be changed after two weeks to include as many as possible.
The title of the exhibition is “Origins” and works range from conservative to avant garde, according to Mr Bernard Maxwell, a member of the Christchurch Youth Council, the or-
ganiser. Mr Maxwell said entries would be received until the exhibition was hung on Monday. . Mr John Coley, director of the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, will advise on the hanging of the first part of the exhibition. Mrs Margaret Austin, member of Parliament for Yaldhurst, will open the exhibition.
As well as the static works exhibited a video complemented by photographs would be shown, Mr Maxwell said.
The organising committee was pleased with the response to the competition, which offered young artists a chance to show their work, he said.
