More Canty firms may be targets of Boycott
More Canterbury companies may become targets of the Boycott group against the All Black tour. This comes after the announcement that Boycott has picked a Christchurch clothing manufacturer, Lane, Walker, Rudkin, as its first target. The company has declined to comment.
A spokesman for Boycott in Christchurch, Mr Brian Hutchings, said yesterday
that Coalition Against the Tour was compiling information on Canterbury companies involved in supporting and promoting rugby or the All Black tour to South Africa. He said the information would be sent to Boycott in Wellington, which was compiling a national register of such companies.
To date the coalition has approached 30 companies and travel agencies and
plans to approach more. Mrs Pat Havighurst, a spokeswoman for the coalition, said that travel agencies arranging party tours to follow the All Blacks in South Africa would now be targets for direct peaceful protest.
The coalition will hold a rally and street theatre in Cathedral Square at lunchtime today to express objection to All Black trials in Invercargill.
