Adios Trick for Auckland

Adios Trick will almost certainly go to Auckland to contest the $15,000 C. F. McCarthy Ladyship Stakes on Saturday, in preference to the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow. Her trainer, Jack Smolensk!, is still puzzled over her failure when she ran only ninth in last Saturday’s Nevelie R. Stud New Zealand Oaks. Tests carried out this week have shown her to be at a high level of fitness. She has eaten up well since the race according to Smolensk. A final decision will be made this morning on her trip to Auckland. All going

well, she will be flown north this morning along with Smarty Pants, Montana Star, Tussle and By the Way. If she does go, it is possible that her stablemate, Smarty Pants, will not start on Saturday and be reserved for the $68,000 D. B. Export Fillies Final at Alexandra Park, a week later, a race that Adios Trick is not eligible for. Adios Trick is likely to be flown to Auckland this morning along with Smarty Pants, Montana Star, Tussle and By the Way. Smolensk! has driving engagements at the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington tomorrow

night and will not come to Auckland until Saturday. Until he arrives, Adios Trick and Smarty Pants will be in the care of Delvin Rickerby, a member of the Win a Trick Syndicate which races Adios Trick. Montana Star is also in the Ladyship Stakes. The main assignment of Tussle and By the Way at the three-night meeting is the Max Harvey- sponsored Rowe Cup on May 18. They are in the John Andrew Ford Handicap on the first night. Tussle will be driven by her owner, Cliff Irvine, on Saturday. Her regular driver, Peter Jones, will take over on the later

nights. Southerners which have already arrived and are being stabled at Alexandra Park are Chipaluck, Anticipate (both trained by Ron MacDonald), Simon Katz (Dick Prendergast) and Worthy Adios (Stuard Sutherland). Alba’s Reign, the top two-year-old pacer, has been withdrawn from the Max Harvey Mobile Race. Georgias is out of the same race. Other scratchings are: Metropolitan Life Mobile Pace: Doc’s Own. Noel Taylor Rosso Antico Stakes: Yankee Loch. C. F. McCarthy Ladyship Stakes: Springfield Countess.
