POWER ENGINEER Applications are Invited from persons with suitable qualifications and experience for the above position in the Commission's Head Office, Hobart. The Commission is a statutory authority of the state of Tasmania constituted under the Hydro-Electric Commission Act 1944. Under the act the commission is responsible for the generation, transmission, distribution, supply and sale of electrical energy throughout the state and for the construction of power developments and associated works required for this purpose. In addition, the commission may enter into and carry out agreements with a minister, acting on behalf of the state to carry out investigations or research for or in connection with locating energy resources, the feasibility of developing or using any energy resource, or of generating or converting energy derived from any such resource and conserving energy resources. The Power Engineer is the head of the power branch, which is responsible for the economic and safe operation of the integrated hydrothermal power system comprising 1940 MW hydro plant and 240 MW thermal plant and including supervision of the operation of the water storages, power stations, eht transmission (220 kv, 110 kv and 88 kv) network and substations to the point of power delivery to major industry and the distribution network: for the maintenance of all completed civil engineering works, power stations, main substations and main transmission lines: for the management of permanent hydro-electric commission villages throughout Tasmania, for the power branch engineering workshops, for the operation of the communication network within the control of power branch, for the recording of statistics relating to the operation-of equipment, and for performing such other duties as the commission may delegate to it periodically. The appointee will be a person with a sound top level engineering and administrative background with extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of power systems including hydro-electric plant. Professional engineering qualifications related to the duties of the position are essential. Salary range: $57,111 to $59,873 per annum.
