Noble River building up
Special correspondent Dunedin The well-performed Noble River is building up for another campaign with beach work. Noble River was put aside on the property of his Taieri Mouth breeder, Mr Jack White, eight months ago. The injury occurred when Noble River won over hurdles at Flemington at his last start early in August. Noble River was prepared for his hurdle win by Doug Mack, at Mordiallic.
Winner of the 1983 Winter Cup at Riccarton, Noble River had been taken to Australia by Hector Anderton jun., four months earlier. He was accompanied by Owhata Son and Yukon River. Noble River has limbered up on his owner’s property for a fortnight and has been working behind pacers on the beach at Brighton for four weeks. He will be returned to the
Anderton stable in about a fortnight. “He seems quite good,” Mr White said. “We will wait and see how he comes along before deciding on his programme.” Yukon River, a close relative of Noble River, died in Melbourne in January of a heart attack. The Noble Bijou—Lily Mellay four-year-old had finished fourth in two of his three starts in maiden flat races. He had to be turned out with shin soreness when originally taken to Australia.
Owhata Son was put aside after an old tendon injury recurred. He won first-up at Flemington over country in May and was successful at Sandown a week later.
Native River, a four-year-old half-brother by Native Turn to Noble River, won a qualifying trial at Wingatui last month but he raced dismally at the Anzac Day meeting on the course.
