M.P.s change minds on reform—claim
PA Auckland Ten members of Parliament have already changed their minds about wanting homosexual law reform, says the National member of Parliament for Invercargill, Mr Norman Jones.
He told a public meeting at the Auckland Town Hall on Saturday that the members incuded some who had voted to introduce the Homosexual Law Reform Bill in Parliament and others who were absent on the day.
Homosexuals and others supporting the bill disrupted two previous meetings Mr Jones has held in the course of a national campaign opposing it.
Members of the Auckland Gay Task Force stood outside the doors on Saturday evening advising homosexuals not to go inside or buy a $2 entry ticket. Few did.
The meeting was also addressed by the member of Parliament for Hauraki, Mr Graeme Lee, and three church ministers. Town Hall officials estimated that 1200 attended the meeting. Mr Jones, one of the instigators of a petition against the bill, said he had received 20,000 signatures in three days this week, and expected to announce within 10 days a total of 500,000 signatures.
