The inner workings of this waterworks pumping station in Aidwins Road are graphically illustrated by this large mural, designed and painted by Rebecca Wilson, a former art student at the University of Canterbury. The mural was commissioned by the Christchurch City Council’s waterworks department while Rebecca was working for the council on a student employment scheme during the university summer holidays. Rebecca painted the waterworks mural in February, after repainting another mural on a concrete wall in Fitzgerald Avenue.
