“Star Wars” policy

Sir,—You are to be commended for reprinting the “Observer” article “Allies falling out in the ‘star wars’ debate” (“The Press,” April 9). Mr Richard Perle, President Reagan’s Secretary of Defence, is shown to be associated with a group whose executive director, it is reported, “hoped and prayed the Geneva arms talks would fail, so that we could get back to the real job of turning the tide against the Soviet Union.” If President Reagan got rid of advisers such as Perle, many, within A.N.Z.U.S. and without, would regard United States policy in international affairs with a little less suspicion and apprehension. — Yours, etc., I. J. CATANACH. April 10, 1985.
