Bauer runs second
NZPA-AAP Melbourne The New Zealander, Siggy Bauer, crossed the finishing line in pouring rain late today to take second place in the Westfield Sydney-to-Melbourne 960-kilometre ultramarathon. “I’m feeling good,” the 43-year-old gardener said shortly after he crossed the line. An estimated 2500 people cheered Bauer as he ran across the line under a huge horse-shoe shaped floral arrangement. The shy Greek champion, Yiannis Kouros, won the marathon on Wednesday afternoon, slicing 10 hours off the record set by Cliff Young in 1983 even though this year’s course was 85km longer.
