Forestry display at fieldays
Log recovery by helicopter will feature as part of a large farm forestry display at the 1985 National Agricultural Fieldays.
The Fieldays are to be held at Mystery Creek near Hamilton from June 13 to 15. The Forest Service’s display court will have working exhibits of wood utilisation, handling timber on the farm, and log recovery.
A helicopter will recover logs from the river bank on the Mystery Creek property and deliver them to the forestry court.
The logs will then be fed into an orthodox portable mill of the type seen in farmers’ paddocks, and progress through other operations on the site.
A chainsaw mill, a small joinery, a portable machine
to dress timber on all four sides, and a woodturner at work will also be on show.
International agricultural machinery is the special feature of the 17th National Fieldays, with some 30 companies taking part. The products displayed have to be agricultural or horticultural machines which are self-propelled or tractor drawn and have
come on to the New Zealand market since June 1983.
A total of about 500 companies will exhibit at the Fieldays, 20 of them from Australia.
In spite of improvements to the Mystery Creek site, there is still not enough space to accommodate all the firms which have applied to exhibit.
