Hockey side named

NZPA-AFP London Linda Carr, England’s women’s hockey captain, fulfils the role outside Britain for the first time when she captains England on its 10-match tour to New Zealand and Australia from August 24 to September 24. The England squad, named yesterday, faces two full internationals in New Zealand and five in Australia, with additional games against Australian state sides. Carr, the 61-times capped player, leads a squad of 16.

One member has yet to be named — a second goalkeeper will be added after England’s full international against Germany, in Mulheim on May 12. Carr’s tour vice-captain, Kim Gordon, will be in charge for that match. The tour squad is: J. Cook, C. Rule, L. Carr (capt.), K. Brown, V. Dixon, B. Hambly, M. Souyave, S. Holwell, K. Gordon (vice-capt.), M. Cheetham, J. Bannister, A. Cannell, J. Shkurka, G. Brown, S. Lister. Second goalkeeper to be added.
