Study on report

A Meat Industry Council report released last week will be investigated professionally by the Meat Workers’ Union. The union’s national executive, which met in Christchurch yesterday, decided against any action on the report until a study had been made, said the union’s secretary, Mr A. J. Kennedy. The report, by the consultants, Pappas Carter, Evans and Koop, was made to the Meat Industry Council. If its recommendations are implemented, several meat works throughout New Zealand could be closed.

. Mr Kennedy said the union was not yet prepared to comment fully on the report, but he indicated that it was unhappy about not being represented on the council. This was one move which would be sought by the union, he said. Mr Kennedy was not sure how long a study of the report would take.
