Stars top Reagan in poll

NZPA-Reuter Washington The tough-guy actor, Clint Eastwood and the comedian, Eddie Murphy, have outpolled President Reagan in a survey of young Americans, aimed at finding out who they consider to be a hero. The poll by the Roper Organisation, commissioned

by the magazine, “U.S. News" and World Report, asked people betwen the ages of 18 and 24 who they found most inspiring and wanted to emulate in some way. Eastwood was favoured by 30 per cent of the participants, Murphy 24 per cent and Reagan 15 per cent.

He was followed by the actresses Jane Fonda and Sally Field, the film director, Steven Spielberg, Pope John Paul, Mother Teresa, and the pop singers Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. In a breakdown among sexes, Eastwood topped the men’s poll and Fonda the women’s.
