Pro-rugby tour song

The pro-rugby tour song, “Let Them Go,” will be released on Monday as originally scheduled, in spite of the mastertape of the song recording having been wiped a week ago. Mr Hoghton Hughes, managing director of Music World, wrote the song, which was then recorded by four Christchurch musician’s using the name, Silent

Majority. The mastertape of the recording was erased, allegedly by an employee of the recording studio. Mr Hughes said he would take civil action against the employee and the studio for the recovery of damages and loss of profit. He feared then that the erasing would force a new recording to be made and that the subsequent delays would mean the record would not be released before the New Zealand Rugby Union’s decision on whether the tour would go ahead. Mr Hughes said last evening that the record would still be released on Monday, two days before the decision, and had been made by using a copy of the recording on a cassette. No new recording had been necessary, he said.
