Firestone decision expected soon
An industrial panel heard submissions on the Firestone laboratory workers’ dispute in Christchurch yesterday and on Tuesday. The dispute is over a relativity claim and led to the closing of the Papanui factory from February 18 to March 23 after the laboratory workers went on strike and were supported by other members of the Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union.
The union referred the dispute to the Canterbury Trades Council, which reached agreement with the company last month to have the dispute settled by an arbitration panel.
The panel, comprising Messrs G. M. Teen and G. Whatnall will receive written submissions from the Trades Council and the company before giving its decision, probably late this month.
