Lord Hillas wins trial

Lord Hillas, an aceptor for the Chateau Regency Mobile Pace at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, won the C2 and faster pacers’ heat in a leisurely 3min 31s (2600 m at yesterday’s Addington trials.

After receiving a good run on the outer, the Mister Hillas gelding proved too strong for Gold Row, Scenic Light and Marilyn Byrd, the leaders running their closing 400 m in 30s. Renewed Hope (20m), which has gained re-entry to the Moffat Appliances Handicap Trot on Saturday, was successful in the Cl and faster trot in 3min 28.85, the. leaders running their closing 400 m in 30.15.

Rona’s Pride (40m), a race rival of Renewed Hope, returned 3min 27.6 s for second, while Falcon Lad finished third. Charlotte Trixie indicated her fitness for coming engagements by winning the Cl pacers heat in 3min 27.95, while Jetline impressed by taking out his CO heat in 3min 29.95, winning by three lengths and quickening over his final 400 m in front in 28.85. Other winners were: Marac (CO trot, 3min 38.35), Sagaman (CO pace, 3min 33.55), Ann Lobell (CO pace, 3min 29.65), Free’s Best (Two-year-old fillies, 2000 m, 2min 45.25), Lordover (two-year-olds, 2000 m, 2min 48.15) and Dazzler (two-year-olds, 2000 m, 2min 48.85).
