New tax ‘welcomed’
PA Auckland The record industry would welcome the introduction of a goods and services tax, said the Federation of Record Companies general manager, Mr Tony Chance. “We have been campaigning for a low rate, across-the-board tax for years instead of the punitive sales tax we have had in the past,” he said. The sales tax on records was 20 per cent, and if replaced by G.S.T. of 10 per cent, records could be cheaper.
