‘Help’ to go on sale
The seventh edition of “Help,” a directory of community and welfare organisations in Christchurch, will go on sale on Monday. The book, published by the Christchurch City Council and the Canterbury Hospital Board, was last released in 1983.
The guide is divided into four sections: community organisations; health, welfare and education services; recreation; and Government departments, local bodies, and Civil Defence. A comprehensive index is included.
Four thousand copies of the directory have been printed and will be sold at $4 each. They will be available from the Christchurch Civic Offices, Canterbury Promotion Council, Canter-
bury Public Library and community libraries, Citizens’ Advice Bureau, Coordinating Centre, District Council of Social Services, and booksellers.
The Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, said at the book’s launching yesterday that “Help” would help overcome the feeling of loneliness in the citv.
"Every citizen can have up-to-date information on where to seek advice, to become involved in groups, or on health needs,” he said.
The chairman of the Canterbury Hospital Board, Mr Tom Grigg, said he hoped the book would be widely distributed.
“It is easy for books like this to go in a bottom drawer and no further,” he said.
