Eleven arrests in drug raids
PA Whangarei Eleven people were arrested yesterday after police drugs raids in Whangarei, Auckland, and in Wales, Britain. A male hairdresser, aged ' 26, and a barmaid, aged 24, in Whangarei, were charged with conspiracy to import heroin, and in Auckland the police charged a man, aged 30, and another man arrested on Thursday with possession of heroin for supply. The police said five more people were arrested in Whangarei and would face other drugs charges. All will appear in court in Whangarei and Auckland today.
In Wales a New Zealand woman, aged 29, and a Welshman, aged 34, have been charged with possession of heroin for supply. The raids followed a fourweek police operation which finished yesterday. The police and drug dogs searched a number of addresses in Auckland and Whangarei and seized 50g of heroin in Auckland and small amounts in Whangarei. The British police seized 25g of heroin at an address in Wales.
The police said they were still interviewing several people in connection with the raids.
