Debate lacked Jones bite

PA Wellington Thursday’s unanimity in Parliament of opposition to the All Blacks going to South Africa might not have been so harmonious had the member for Invercargill, Mr Norman Jones, had full control of his teeth. At the time of the debate, Mr Jones, who supports the tour, was sitting in a dentist’s chair having dental repairs.

As he recalled it, his top denture went flying when he was “in full flight” , during a debate on Wednesday, and just missed Hansard reporters. Mr Jones said he had not really tried to get on the speaking order for the Opposition side of the South Africa debate because of the mishap, but he would have liked to have spoken and to have expressed his support for the tour.
