Predictable golf five
The four semi-finalists in the Canterbury match-play golf championship and the winner of the plate, Mary Sparrow, form the Canterbury team to play in the Stylemaster national interprovincial teams’ tournament in Whangarei from May 6 to 9.
It was a predictable team, with only the former New Zealand and Southland representative, Liz Douglas, gaining Canterbury selec-
tion for the first time in the national event.
The team, in alphabetical order, is: Adrienne Bond, Liz Douglas, Jeannette Ross, Mary Sparrow and Lynley Watts. Jane Reese is the travelling reserve and Maryanne Stemmer the non-travelling reserve. Mrs Sparrow will be making her thirteenth appearance for Canterbury at the tournament and Mrs Ross will represent the province
for the eleventh time. Mrs Bond will make her sixth successive appearance since moving to Christchurch, and Miss Watts, the nontravelling reserve last year, will return to the team after making her debut in 1983. The selection of Miss Reese as the travelling reserve might be seen as a surprise, but she is a talented young player who should serve Canterbury well in future years.
