S.A. condemned
The United Nations Security Council, in rare unanimity, condemned the South African Government for the killing of blacks protesting against its resettlement policy. The council also condemned the arrests of members of the United Democratic Front and other organisations opposed to apartheid. It called on the South African authorities to release unconditionally and immediately all political prisoners and detainees, including Nelson Mandela, a symbol of black resistance who has been held for 23 years. — New York
