Warning to women park joggers
Women walking or jogging in Hagley Park have been warned by tbe police to be aware of the risk of assault, even in daylight, after a number of incidents in tbe park recently. Women jogging in the park should run in pairs or groups, a police spokesman said.
A woman jogger, aged 18. was running near the Riccarton Road roundabout a: 2 p.m. on March 6 when a man approached her. He asked her for directions, made indecent suggestions, and then grabbed her shirt. Tbe woman kneed him in tbe groin but was then
punched in the face. She was knocked to the ground and suffered a split lip. Police inquiries into the attack are continuing.
Tbe spokesman said there had been several other incidents in the Dark in the last
month, and constant police
patrols were being made in the area.
Two other incidents happened in Hagley Park last week. On March 5 a young woman was threatened with a roasting fork and indecently assaulted, although she was unharmed, and a man exposed himself to four schoolgirls in the park on March 6.
