Five die in collision
PA Auckland A small car was smashed beyond recognition, killing all five occupants, when it and a heavy truck collided near Whangarei at the week-end. The Whangarei police said the wrecked car was “sort of unrecognisable.” It was put on a trailer and taken to a nearby farm shed before the bodies were cut out. The five dead were all
from Auckland. They were Shane Clifford Yates, aged 20, of Avondale Gregory Grant Carter, aged 24 Joanne Meriil Message, aged 20 and Shonelle Alana Carter, aged 23 months, all of Glen Eden; and Russell John Wood, aged 17, of Avondale. The police said the five were killed instantly when their car and a truck col-
lided near Smeatons Hill, on State highway I,lokm south of Whangarei, at 5.15 p.m. on Saturday.
