India win

NZPA-AAP Sydney India romped to a seven wicket victory over New Zealand in the World Championship of Cricket semifinal at the Sydney Cricket Ground last evening. Set a target of 207 to win, the Indians cruised home with more than six overs to spare. The all-rounder, Kapil Dev, and Dilip Vengsarkar turned on a brilliant batting display, scoring 105 runs off 74 balls to win the match. Both lashed unbeaten half centuries. New Zealand, after being put in to bat, used all its wickets in reaching a total of 206. All-rounder Ravi Shastri was named man of the match after taking three wickets and scoring 53 runs. New Zealand was pegged to a modest total. After being sent in to bat, New Zealand, was restricted to 206 after their 50 overs, a reasonable target for the one-day World Cup holders. Only a typically aggressive innings from Lance Cairns who blazed 39 runs in 33 minutes in the closing stages saved the New Zealanders from acute embarrassment. Scoreboard: NEW ZEALAND J.
