AUSTRALIA $Aust boost prices

NZPA-Reuter Sydney Australian sharemarkets wiped out their early losses to close firmer yesterday with the announcement of some good profit results and a weaker Australian dollar encouraging buyers into an otherwise dull market. At 3.15 p.m. Sydney time the all-ordinaries index was up 2.2 points at 798.3, the all-industri-als index was 3.9 points up at 1177.5, and the all-resources index was 0.9 points firmer at 506.0. National turnover totalled 36.26 M shares, worth about sAust4s.llM, compared with 28.22 M shares worth about $51.84M. Rises outnumbered falls, 188 to 144. Brokers said trading started cautiously after Wall Street’s 10 point correction and a lack of interest in London. BHP led the diversified resource sector higher with a 4c rise to $5.68, while Bell Resources held steady at $5.30 and CSR slipped 1c to $2.82. From today "The Press” extends its coverage of the Australian sharemarket with a range of prices that includes buy and sell quotes for a range of shares:
