Strikers refuse offer

Striking brewery tradesmen in Auckland and Hamilton have refused the. latest wage offer from their employers, and the breweries are preparing to close the three plants on Tuesday night. After the weekly meeting yesterday of the 120 tradesmen, their officials met management representatives. The breweries’ advocate, Mr Paul Diver, said, “We listened to their rejection. They basically want more money. We said, ‘Sorry’. From here, we head towards Tuesday and a lockout.” About 500 other workers will lose work if a lastminute peace proposal does not prevent the breweries from closing their doors.
