Pipe band titles in N.I.
PA Tauranga Auckland district bands won major placings in the senior grades of the central North Island pipe band championships held at Te Puke on Saturday. The over-all standard of music was higher than at the Auckland centre pipe band championships the previous week, said one of the music
judges, Mr Stewart Hobson, of Auckland. Two lower grade bands that impressed him with their music standards , were the Otahuhu and Districts band in grade 3 and the Hamilton Caledonian Society’s No. 2 band in grade 4. Results were: Grade 1 - Aggregated: McLeay Duff Distillery 1, City of Tauranga 2, City of Napier
3. Grade 2 — City of Papakura 1, City of Rotorua 2, Pukekohe R.S.A. 3. Grade 3 — Otahuhu and Districts 1, Te Awamutu and Districts 2. Grade 4 — Hamilton Caledonian Society No. 2 1, R.N.Z.A.F. Base Te Rapa 2. Staff flourishing — E. Eeles (McLeay Duff) 1.
