U.N. affirms refusal to promote abortion
NZPA-Reuter New York The United Nations will not promote abortion as a method for family planning, the head of the organisation’s population programme has affirmed. Dr Rafael Salas said this was one of the principles that guided United Nations policies and programmes and would “underlie all the
activities that are to be undertaken” after the international conference on population held in August last year. The United States threatened to withhold its contribution to the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, headed by Dr Salas, unless it was assured that its money was not used for abortions. •
