No Chernenko speech

NZPA-Reuter Moscow The Soviet President, Konstantin Chernenko, ailing for the last two months, would not appear today to deliver a major speech he was due to make in the Kremlin, said a Foreign Ministry spokesman.

The spokesman was giving the first official word that the party chief would not reappear after nearly two months absence to address a traditional Kremlin rally on the eve of elections to the Russian Federation Supreme Soviet.
