Trade increase expected

PA Wellington New Zealand’s dairy trade with Iran may rise about $6 million this year, says a Dairy Board spokesman, Mr Neville Martin. Iran purchased 31,000 tonnes of butter from New Zealand in the year ended May, 1984, worth about $4O million, and predictions were that this could increase to 35,000 tonnes this year, he said. Three representatives of the Iranian Government’s

buying agency - the Food Procurement and Distribution Centre, toured the North Island last week, strengthening the Dairy Board’s confidence in the growing Gulf market.

But a barter deal would have to be considered if that was the price of the business, Mr Martin said.

“The (dairy) board does not close the door to any opportunity, no matter what the degree of difficulty,” he said.
