Lady Skinner
PA Auckland Lady Skinner, wife of the former president of the Federation of Labour, Sir Tom Skinner, died yesterday after being taken to the Mater Hospital in Auckland after a short illness. She was 63. While her husband was often in the spotlight in industrial matters, Lady Skinner kept a low public profile. She once said that she never sat about being
miserable while Sir Tom was embroiled in many issues during his 16 years as president of the F.O.L.
She kept busy with community work and looking after their family of three children and five grandchildren. When Sir Tom was knighted in 1976 he said that the honour was also a tribute to his wife. The couple met while working for the same Auckland firm, and were married 42 years.
