Tour talk next month

By

PATRICIA HERBERT

in Wellington

The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, will meet the New Zealand Rugby Union’s council some time next month to discuss the proposed tour of South Africa. This is in line with an undertaking by the council’s chairman, Mr Ces Blazey, that a decision on the invitation will be deferred until Mr Lange has met the

councillors and talked through the issues with them.

Mr Lange has indicated that he will impress on the council that, if it decides to go ahead with the tour, it should at least be firm in its resolve.

He has said that the decision should not be made by “a contested majority.” The council is believed to be almost split down the middle on the question.
