Westport bowler excels
PA Palmerston North The prospects of the world champion, Peter Beiliss, making the quarter-finals of the Manawatu Lion Masters singles bowls became uncertain when he was beaten by Westport’s Tommy James Beiliss, perhaps lacking a
little hard match practice at the tournament through gaining an easy early draw, was well beaten, 31-22. Bruce Ballinger (Marewa), twice a finalist and winner in 1982, continues to show impressive form in Skoglund’s section. Canterbury’s three repre-
sentatives had mixed results. Ken Watson lost twice, Graham Stanley lost in the morning but beat Wrack, 31-24, in the afternoon; while Neville Poole, after winning 31-27 in the early round, was beaten by Ballinger, 31-24, in the later game.
