$75 fine for running on to cricket field
A young man who ran on to the field to shake the hand of a player at Lancaster Park on Wednesday during the one-day cricket match between New Zealand and Pakistan was fined $75 by Judge Pain in the District Court yesterday. Peter William Bickle, aged 18, unemployed, of Auckland, admitted behaving in a disorderly manner at the park. Detective Sergeant B. M. Roswell said the incident took place at 1.55 p.m. Bickle, a spectator, jumped a fence, ran across the ground while play was in progress and shook the hand of one of the cricketers. In explanation to the police, the defendant, who was intoxicated at the time, said he was merely trying to congratulate a player. INDECENCY CHARGES On three charges of doing indecent acts on two girls, aged nine and 13, Colin
Bruce Galloway, aged 31, a solo parent, was remanded, without plea to February 14. Galloway was charged with committing the alleged offences between August and December last year. He was allowed bail of $750. No application was made for suppression of his name. RECEIVING CHARGE Bail was set at $l5OO for a man charged with receiving liquor, valued at $1748, the property of the Woolston Working Men’s Club. The defendant, Brian Charles Elliot, aged 20, a labourer, was remanded to February 14, without plea. The police say the alleged offence took place on February 7. BURGLARY CHARGE Two men charged with burgling the Stanmore Road premises of Trusteebank Canterbury on December 28 elected to be dealt with differently. Wayne Michael Joseph Flynn, aged 27, unemployed, was remanded on renewed
bail to April 16 for the taking of depositions. Wayne Lawrence Hendra, aged 23, a window cleaner, was remanded, on bail, to April 19 for a defended hearing.
