N.Z. must ‘stand up’ to U.S.
PA Wellington New Zealand must be prepared to stand up to American bullying tactics over the nuclear-ship ban, said Social Credit’s deputy Leader, Mr Garry Knapp, yesterday. “We can survive reduced defence and Intelligence cooperation with the United States but American retaliation against our trade would demand a New Zealand counter-offensive,” Mr Knapp said. “New Zealand should approach those sympathetic Governments and politicians in other democratic countries to bring world opinion to bear on the United States, if our trade is threatened.
“If America really ‘puts the screws on’ the international Western world
should be left in no doubt of the extent to which New Zealand is being bullied because of American pique,” Mr Knapp said.
