Govt urged to enter wage talks
PA Auckland The Opposition spokesman on labour, Mr George Gair, has called on the Government to intervene in the present round of wage talks.
If present union demands were not contained, some settlements would reach 15 per cent and more and the 6 to 7 per cent guideline would be in tatters, he said in Auckland yesterday. The second-tier wage settlements in the next few days would determine the fate of the Government’s economic policy, Mr Gair said, but the Minister of Labour, Mr Rodger, appeared unwilling or unable to intervene.
The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, had to forget his preoccupation with nuclear ships and changes in the (Waitangi celebrations, saMr F Gair said.
