America’s worst trading year
NZPA-AP Washington The United States posted its worst trading year in history in 1984 — a $U5123.3 billion deficit that nearly doubled the old record. Both the Reagan Administration and private economists predict the trade deficit will increase this year. The Commerce Department said the 1984 deficit topped the old mark of $U569.4 billion in 1983 and was almost three times the 1982 level, of $U542.7 billion.
