More aid for Fiji
PA Wellington An R.N.Z.A.F. Hercules left for Fiji last evening carrying electrical equipment, said the Prime Minister, Mr Lange. Restoring Fiji’s power supply was a high priority and the consignment would hasten the process, he said. The aircraft also carried an officer of the Meteorological Service who will help the Fiji authorities repair wind speed measuring equipment damaged in the rent cyclones. The R.N.Z.A.F. Iroquois helicopter which had been stationed at Nandi for the last 10 days will be brought back to New Zealand by the Hercules. The Fiji authorities had made good use of the Iroquois in ferrying relief supplies to the worst-hit areas and its tasks had been completed, Mr Lange said. A five-member Army engineering team left for Fiji on Tuesday to help provide temporary classrooms, and, in the longer term, the reconstruction of school buildings.
