Extradition possible
PA Wellington The police have not decided whether to seek extradition from the United States of former member of Parliament, Mr John Kirk, to face criminal charges related to the transfer of money and gold bullion from New Zealand.
Detective Superintendent Bruce Scott, the director of investigative services at Police Headquarters, said yesterday that a decision would be made soon. “The files are being subject to thorough assessment,” he said. Detective Inspector Bill
Biship, of Wellington, flew to Los Angeles late last year to interview Mr Kirk about the alleged illegal transfer of funds. Mr Kirk left New Zealand in July. He has since been declared bankrupt and has debts in excess of $230,000 in New Zealand.
