First centre bowls title

Jean Foreman (Spreydon), a consistent performer over a number of seasons in Christchurch women’s bowls, broke through for her first centre title when she won the champion-of-cham-pions singles on the St Martins green yesterday. Mrs Foreman took the title with her two lives still intact. Her last opponent was the one-lifer, Lorraine Carson (Woolston Park), who was trying to win the event for a seventh

time. However, Mrs Carson’s prospects of beating Mrs Foreman twice soon disppeared. Mrs Foreman was in fine drawing touch from the first end, and she led 6-0 after four ends and 13-4 after eleven. The game ended on the nineteeth end, with Mrs Foreman beyond reach at 22-9. She will now represent Christchurch at the national champion-of-champions event later in the season.
