Lord Louie on target for Aust. campaign
Lord Louie showed that he was on target for the Inter-Dominion Championship series, which starts at Moonee Valley, Melbourne, on February 23 when he was successful at the Addington trials yesterday. Lord Louie, driven by Trevor Thomas, who may also handle him on his Melbourne campaign, started from 70m in a race with a front of Cl. He improved sharply over the last 1800 m and joined Mister Chan in front at the straight entrance. From then on he was completely in control and he won untested by a length in 3min 24.4 s for the 2600 m. His last 800 m took 59.45, with the final 400 m in 30.65. Lord Louie will start in the Pan Am Mile on February 16, a few days before his departure for Australia. He looks to have thrived recently and is certain to improve sharply. Tempest Star went quite well for second, ahead of Mister Chan, Local Skipper and the Nelson candidate, Luca Lustre, which was doing his best work towards the finish. Quiet Touch, which needs three scratchings to secure a start in the heat of the D.B. Export Flying Fillies Stakes tomorrow, showed how unlucky she was not to have been included in the field, when she won a heat of the CO pacers’ event in 3min 31.25. She led throughout and drew out to beat Maida Point by more than six lengths after taking 30s for her last 400 m. Preston’s Pride (3min 30.65) and True Lisa (3min 32.25) won the other two heats with smart efforts. It was a low-key trials fixture, with Marac, Novander and the two-year-olds, Gqppel Truth and Stanley Steamer, winning stylishly.'
