Moses pleads
NZPA-AP Los Angeles The American Olympic 400 m hurdles hero, Edwin Moses, pleaded not guilty yesterday to soliciting sex for money from an undercover policewoman. Moses, aged 32, who was not present at the Municipal Court arraignment, had the plea entered by his attorney, Edward Medvene. The hearing before Judge David Doi was one week earlier than had been announced. A Deputy City Attorney, Mike Wilkinson, said that Californian law permitted a defendant’s absence at such hearings in misdemeanour cases. Trial was scheduled for February 8. Moses had been charged only with solicitation of an act of prostitution, Mr Wilkinson said. Prosecutors had considered a second count, of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, found in a film canister in Moses’s car but decided against it, he said.
