NZPA-AAP Sydney The merchant bank, Hill Samuel Australia, Ltd, expects its, trading bank arm to begin operations next month, subject to Treasury approval, and it has chosen early domestic coinage as the logo for Macquarie Bank, Ltd. The executive chairman, Mr David Clarke, said in a statement that work on setting up the Macquarie Bank had been substantially completed and it was set to become the second private Australian trading bank founded this century. The trading bank's corporate logo is based on early domestic coinage known as the holey dollar. Governor Lachlan Macquarie introduced the coin to ovdbcome a shortage in the early days of the Australian penal colony, after punching out the centre of imported Spanish silver dollars to create two coins from one.
