No holds barred
Now in full rehearsal, the Court’s new production is a play with a difference. “Trafford Tanzi,” which opens on Saturday, February 9, is set in the present day in a wrestling ring. The whole play takes place in the ring. For this, the Court has got a genuine wrestling ring from Canterbury Court. The interior of the Court will be extensively rearranged to accommodate this unusual play. “Trafford Tanzi” tells the story of one woman’s progress through life. The battles, traumas and hardships that she encounters are presented under the guise of a wrestling match. In each round of the match she faces a new opponent — a new challenge; each bout has a winner and a loser. Her life is overseen by the referee who keeps things clean and proper, strictly according to the rules of the game. When “Trafford Tanzi” opened in London in 1983, the “Daily Mail” said it was a “. . . most splendid piece of raucous musical entertainment.” The “Daily Telegraph” said: “The most original, refreshing, surprising and exhilerating drama to reach London for years.” Wrestling lessons have been held at the Court since
November of last year in preparation for “Trafford Tanzi” and the cast are now in full swing as they rehearse for their opening on February 9. The part of Trafford Tanzi is played by Janet Fisher. Her Mum and Dad are played by Fran Waters and Mark Hadlow. Her other two opponents in the
play are her tarty friend, ' Sue, played by Lin WaldeM grave and her macho hus--band, Dean, played by Jeff' Boyd. Alistair Browning is« the referee and Tony Mack * sits at the piano at the. ringside, adding to the fuir - and games.
“Trafford Tanzi” is directed by Alex Gilchrist.
